Operations Assistant, Engineering

Anaplan’s Engineering team is growing rapidly, scaling to deliver an aggressive growth strategy in the form of accelerated delivery, increasingly demanding roadmap and a re-architecting of the platform. Distributed by design, Engineering covers three locations today (York, London and San Francisco) plus several satellite teams. We will soon hit 200 technology staff globally, comprising at least 20 engineering teams. 

We therefore require an Operations function to focus on the ‘people engineering’ activities that are key to successfully scaling our development efforts. Whilst Program Management deliver process, monitoring and frameworks to support technical execution, Operations will execute non-technical projects and initiatives that deliver seamless running of our development efforts, especially those related to the Engineers’ Experience.


The Role

Based in York, the Operations Assistant, Engineering is responsible for:

  • Deliver on a best-in-class engineering culture, supporting the Director, Operations Engineering to define, develop, and promote an excellent engineer experience.
  • Delivering internal communications and cascaded messaging of the highest quality to drive alignment and understanding across the leadership team and the global group. This will include delivering the engineering section of the weekly R&D update.
  • Supporting the development of communications out to Anaplan stakeholders to ensure transparency. Includes developing a Tech Talk series within Anaplan to teach the business more about what we do.
  • Owning and delivering the Engineering presence on the Anaplan Intranet and Confluence, ensuring that all key information, documentation and guidance is readily available and of high quality.
  • Engineering event management, organizing and running those events for the best outcomes.
  • Support engagement with external events such as conferences, tech meetups and hackathons.
  • Delivering best-in-class ‘first touch’, Pre-boarding and On-boarding of new Engineering staff.
  • Administrative ownership of Engineering’s engagement with facilities on office space and IT to ensure the right tools and equipment provision, marketing to provide PR/engineering swag and procurement to enable vendors/licensing to be well managed. All with a focus on improving the Engineers' experience and scaling the team.
  • Engineering education & training activities, a proactive Skills Audit and staff development track with control of a budget to deliver this as we scale.


Key Measures of Success 

  • The semi-annual Pulse Survey (especially Employee NPS for Engineering).
  • The semi-annual Manager Feedback surveys.
  • Onboarding feedback.
  • 360 Peer Feedback.


Key Deliverables

  • A strong Intranet presence and process to manage this, for Engineering.
  • Delivery of a global calendar of Training and Events, that is valuable and within budget.
  • Working closely with Program Management to deliver:
    • An Engineering exec level KPI dashboard.
    • The quarterly Board and QBR decks.
  • Leadership team alignment, backed by excellent communications within and external to engineering.

  • Experienced at working with technical teams and staff, preferably for a SaaS company. Extra kudos if you’ve worked across a globally distributed team.

  • Excellent at both written and verbal communication.
  • Comfortable speaking to groups, facilitating and presenting ideas.
