Anaplan is looking for an exceptional Content Specialist to join the Technical Content Team in San Francisco. We’re in a growth phase at the moment and we’re looking for writer/technologists who are smart, adaptable, keen to learn, and across all the latest thinking in content development. We’re part of Software Engineering, so we’d prefer you to have some experience with the Agile process and scrum tools such as Jira and Confluence (but read on, it’s not a show stopper, if you don'

Traditionally, this might have been called a technical writing role.  It is. But it’s so much more than that. Primarily, we’re looking for adaptable people who can understand technical concepts and systems quickly and then write quality copy, following our style guidelines.  That copy will be based on standard technical writing principles for writing user documentation with a friendly, conversational style. We need you to write, write, write. And love doing it.

In addition, we’re looking for people with an interest in content itself. How it’s written, how it’s structured, and how it’s delivered in an omnichannel environment. We’ll be looking to you to contribute ideas and be engaged with the latest thinking in the area to improve the way we write and deliver content and communicate accurately with our readers.

The quality of our content isn’t as good as we want it to be so we’re implementing a component content management system to provide structure for the development of all our content. We’re aiming high and we need help on the journey.

We’re looking for curious, dynamic individuals who are really engaged with writing and communicating in all its forms. What we’re also looking for is cultural fit. What you'll be doing:

  • Write technical solutions for our software platform. Those solutions might include written documentation, videos, infographics, walkthroughs, or API documentation. One day: chat bots, but we’re not there, yet!
  • Work with the lovely people in our engineering teams across the globe. Attend meetings to gather requirements; ask questions (possibly via Webex); occasionally be available to remote teams, across time zones, to gather requirements and feedback.
  • Work closely with other members of the technical content team to ensure timely delivery of content: we work as a team, and help out wherever we can. No silos. No throwing things over the fence. We all own it and we work together to deliver it.
  • Work closely with other members of the technical content team to ensure consistent style and tone across all content by reviewing each other’s work, before submitting it for Editorial review; helping to define and maintain a set of common templates for different forms of documentation; and contributing generally to improving the writing process.

More about you:

  • At least 2 years’ experience as a technical writer, preferably in a software environment.
  • Fluent in English with a wide vocabulary and strong grammar. Though we’re happy if you have another language — localization is part of our brief too.
  • Tenacious — not intimidated by complex systems (our systems can be quite complex).
  • Organized and focused. You'll need to ensure that release content, information requests, and tasks are well-planned, executed to the highest standard, and delivered on time.
  • Perceptive and empathetic. Able understand customer needs and develop the kinds of information products they require.
  • Proactive — determined to use your strong communication skills to engage our experts and customers in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Innovative — with a desire to deliver world-class documentation across different media and a commitment to continual learning and keeping abreast of industry developments.
  • Open to change. We’re a fast-growing company — you'll need to be open to accepting and working with constant change.
  • Experience working with enterprise business planning or financial data is a plus.
  • Familiar with the Agile development process and knowledge of Confluence, JIRA and GIT are also a plus as these will be the primary vehicles for the delivery and organization of your work.
