We’re currently looking for an experienced Director of Engineering to oversee our London development teams, focused on delivering a range of platform tracks including our calculation engine, server and new platform development. Key Responsibilities:

The Director of Engineering will provide leadership for the London-based Engineering team - as a senior member of the Engineering team, they will be responsible for managing and executing critical projects across multi-disciplinary teams, while providing thought leadership along with significant personal contributions. 

Working in a highly collaborative environment, he/she will have responsibility to recruit, manage, motivate and retain the best talent in a performance-driven, hyper-growth organisation.

This role is to provide guidance to the team for technical escalations that develop within or come to the Engineering team.  He/she will ensure the optimal application of technology and engineering resources to meet product development and/or customer requirements. 

The Director of Engineering will drive architecture/design decisions needed to achieve high performance results and manage multiple product development projects in an agile environment. A major focus will be applying agile and engineering “best practices” for the development of high-quality products to recruit, motivate and empower employee development. 


Desired Skills and Experience

  • A true passion for engineering.
  • A proven track record of inspiring and motivating people throughout their career to deliver great software.
  • Strong technical background in Java (or C# / C++) and agile.
  • Deep, enterprise-scale background in Cloud software with high requirements for security, consistency, availability and responsiveness
  • Extensive Software Engineering experience with progressively increasing responsibilities in a senior leadership capacity.
  • People management experience of 50+ staff with a track record of scaling multiple engineering teams: you’re able to hire really smart, passionate and delivery-focused team members who represent our culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and innovate with excellent team building and leadership skills.
  • The willingness and experience to work at a detailed technical level with Leads and Architects.
  • Experience in handling Engineering escalations from customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong operational and project management skills in a product development environment.
  • Understanding of Quality and how to build complex systems that scale and are highly tested.
  • Positive energy and enthusiasm - cultural fit is a really big deal for us… we're looking for super-smart people who are excited about solving big problems, love learning and are self-motivated to get things done. 
  • An ease at communicating at all levels up to Board/Executive members, ensuring your alignment to the Engineering vision at all times.
  • Planning systems or online analytical processing experience is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Software Engineering or related discipline preferred.
