Sr Director University Connect at Anaplan

We are creating a world-class University Connect Program. It’s a program where we help students in Universities and Colleges, adopt the Anaplan technology for use in their course work where they would normally use software such as Excel or Access. As problems become more complex, students need to arm themselves with the latest cutting-edge technologies to compete when they enter the workforce.

We have started to create a world-class team that will recruit the world’s leading Colleges and Universities.

We are talking to as many Universities and Colleges as we can, giving them access to our software for free and getting students to adopt our technology as their first choice when completing complex course work that requires sophisticated technology. We want to create a ground-swell of students that become incredible ambassadors for Anaplan both within their Universities and inside their employers when they enter the work force.

This means building a team that can identify and ‘sell’ into Universities, get students enrolled quickly into the program, get them trained and make it stick. It means you will have to be exceptional at guerilla marketing and thinking outside of the box to get a ground-swell at each University.

About the Role

The Head of University Connect is responsible for system-wide development and on-going management of Anaplan’s University Connect strategies, initiatives, policies and practices, and programs. In this role, the Senior Director of University Connect must partner effectively with Anaplan’s senior leadership, (ELT), team as well as the sales team who are also selling to Universities and Colleges to ensure alignment.

This is a highly strategic role that requires you to set strategy and vision for the group and lead a world-class team to execute on that strategy. As a business that is in high-growth mode, we need to train and certify thousands of students in the next few years. That takes planning, dedication, passion and execution. It means thinking big and bold and at scale. It takes the right people and of course the ideal leader. That’s where you come in.

You’ll be intimate with our Customer 1st initiative and what that means from a customer [student] experience point of view and how your organization helps us execute on that.

We are not trying to be second best. We are forging a path to be the leader in not just cloud-based planning and analytics, but the leader in customer service and experience, in every sense.

You’ll also connect our customers with the students emerging from University programs, hopefully giving our customers a steady flow of fully qualified students to help them with their own Anaplan Center of Excellence.

In this position, you will:

  • Partner with business leaders, Recruitment, and the Chief Planning Officer to execute on capabilities needed to drive the business strategies of the organization.
  • Build and scale an internal University Connect Program to train students to become Anaplan experts.
  • Work with the Community (, to promote collaboration and participation with the students and to facilitate their learning journeys.
  • Work with Marketing, HR Business Partners, Recruiting and others, to promote Anaplan’s brand as an organization that develops and values its workforce.
  • Ongoing familiarity with best practices, innovations and networks with key external University & College leaders to stay on the cutting edge of what is happening on campuses globally.

Role Scope

  • Vision, Strategy and leadership over;
    • Student/University on-boarding, including Platform technical training & center of excellence training
    • Liaise with the Academy on training & education content
    • Execute on the Veteran’s Connect Program, (similar to the University Connect program but with Veterans)
    • Create a ground-swell at the world’s leading Universities and make the programs stick
  • Oversee a team in Minneapolis, Minnesota and potentially other teams in other locations across the globe
  • Reporting to the Chief Planning Officer

Preferred Technical & Professional Experience/Skills

  • Passion and experience in University programs
  • A relentless, crazy passion for seeding the Universities with huge Anaplan advocates, who will carry that passion into their first roles
  • 10 + years as a senior-level leader with experience working in global organizations, recognized for developing external relationships such as Universities
  • 10 + years of proven successful experience demonstrating positive results in executive level strategic planning, program development or organizational development is required.
  • Knowledge of instructional design, curriculum and content development, multimodal methods of training delivery, learning platforms, evaluation, succession planning and performance support combined with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, innovator and creative thinker.
  • Experience in leading within a matrixed environment
  • Experience in cross-function teams that need to highly collaborate to get to an end result
  • Highly customer centric and a passion for an optimized customer [student] experience
  • Ability to get key University Program objectives accomplished though others – both direct report leaders as well as through leaders outside direct reporting relationship
  • Experience designing and implementing innovative enterprise-level talent management and learning programs
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, project management, communication, problem solving, and consultation skills required.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with a sense of urgency and a desire to achieve top line results.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence across geography and culture
  • Experience building high performance teams and leading through others to implement major solutions, requiring ownership, buy-in, and support
  • Demonstrated ability to flex style and solutions to the needs of the individual, organization, or environment
  • Leadership experience in consensus building, developing teams, visionary thinking and organizational alignment and lean process improvement is required.
  • Demonstrated technological savvy to leverage the educational programs with the benefits of technology.
  • Strong leadership presence with exceptional presentation and relationship-building skills
